Karel Appel
Biography
Karel Appel (Amsterdam, 1921 – Zurich, 2006) was a Dutch painter and sculptor in the modern art movement of the second half of the twentieth century, and can be considered as one of the expressionists. He gained recognition through his membership in the Cobra group. Appel was active as an artist from 1946 until his death in 2006. He was known for his abstract expressionist style and his involvement in the action painting movement.
